In the world of fluid dynamics simulations, positive displacement machines and all those cases with rotating elements in which the fluid volumes is subject to large swift compressions and expansions, often represent a great obstacle: meshes tend to collapse, preventing the conclusion of the calculations and forcing us to use approximate solutions.
TwinMesh is a specific software for meshing these cases: fast, reliable, efficient, and perfectly compatible with the main solvers available on the market, such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Ansys CFX.
Main use cases:
TwinMesh takes care of automatically creating structured meshes of the highest quality for each rotation step. This guarantees greater numerical stability, lower calculation times and the possibility of capturing transient phenomena and internal losses with high precision. The process is simple: starting from the CAD geometry of the rotor, TwinMesh generates the sequence of dynamic meshes to be provided to the main solvers available on the market, such as Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Ansys CFX, which will then perform the calculations that will allow to investigate flow rate, temperature, volumetric efficiency, reaction forces, cavitation phenomena and vibrations.
TwinMesh integrates seamlessly into a simulation workflow thanks to its interface with ANSYS CFX and Simcenter STAR-CCM+. After defining the machine geometry, TwinMesh creates a dynamic mesh ready for CFD calculation in just a few minutes. This eliminates hours of manual modeling, reduces errors and allows for accurate transient simulations, including compression and leakage effects. This allows for faster development of pumps and compressors right from the design stage.
